Nikon Coolpix S5100: Style, Speed And Simplicity
ByNikon has introduced a new budget-friendly point-and-shoot camera, called the Coolpix S5100. Nikon claims that the S5100 will offer a handful of shooting options that enhance nighttime and low-light shooting with less noise and blur. Nikon says high ISO shots will be met with reduced grain, which is what we read about in practically every press release that crosses our desks. With 18 Scene modes, the Nikon S5100 should cover most ground, and there’s also a Subject Tracking, Scene Auto Selector, and Nikon’s Smart Portrait System.
The new Nikon S5100 lies in between the S4000 and the S6000. With 5x Optical Zoom and a range of 28-140 mm (35mm equivalent), connected to a CCD image sensor with an effective resolution of 12.2-megapixel, the S5100 fits nicely in between them. It is Nikon’s answer to the storm of relatively cheap entry-level cameras that are being offered by virtually every manufacturer on every street corner. It is difficult for a manufacturer to distinguish itself in this price segment. Nikon does this by equipping the camera with a new image processor.
The Nikon S5100 is equipped with features that ensure the certain capture of those once-in-a-lifetime moments in beautiful images. Among these features, there is also one-touch 720p HD video recording at 30fps, thanks to a dedicated Record button located on the back of the camera.
With improved response performance from the EXPEED C2 image processing system you will never miss the perfect shot, even if your subject is moving and the Nikon S5100′s speedy operation is likely a result of this upgrade. Although the Nikon Coolpix S5100 incorporates a 5x zoom NIKKOR lens starting at wide-angle 28mm, the sporty, metal, rounded body design is only 0.9-inch (21.6 mm) thick so it will easily fit in a bag or pocket.
The Nikon S5100 is bundled with ViewNX 2, an all-in-one software package that enables photographers to quickly and easily import, browse, edit and share still images and movies. Building upon the highly successful ViewNX software, ViewNX 2 is a consumer-friendly suite that offers a huge range of features, going well beyond those supplied as part of a PC’s operating system. Newly-incorporated advanced movie-editing functions have been taken directly from Nikon’s award-winning Digital SLR range, enabling users to create stunning movie footage. ViewNX 2 is included with all Nikon digital cameras and is also available as a free download.
