Why do most of my friends buy Sony digital cameras? They arent any good. They use proprietary technology, and they didnt develop their own lenses. Plus, they got their DSLR technology from Minolta, so how on earth are they any good? They dont know crap.

I have a Sony DSC-W50. I don’t care if they developed it or not. If it works well and i get good quality pictures and videos, i’m hpapy.

If you’re speaking about the DSLR, then congratulations for not buying into the hype. You are absolutely right about that one.
I don’t know much about their P&S line, except that they have a reputation for being kind of “noisy.” Most people who buy them don’t even know what that means, though.
If it was me I would go with a Canon camera.
I would kill for the Rebel Xti… Yum!
The main reason, my opinion, is that Sony is a trusted company. They make really great products, so that is why people trust them with cameras. People shouldn’t really base their decision of what camera to buy on the company name, how “spiffy” it looks, or of all the “great” features. And the MP myth also influences people’s decision. So really, the main reason is just trusting Sony. Which can be a pretty big mistake.
I have a sony camera and I love it. I don’t know how they created the camera, nor do I care.
I am not aware about the noisy part but I do notice that they are pretty bad on metering especially under low light. Sometimes, in close distant, even with the flash fire, the image can still be under exposed. I guess people buy it for its look and the fact that its a Sony. They don’t really care and don’t know the differents about image quality.
I’m in the same ball park as Jenn. I don’t care how they made it, my cyber-shot DSC-H2 takes high quality shots.Maybe the Carl Zeiss lens helps.
