   I bought the Pentax W60 six months ago on the way to an indoor waterpark. I wanted something that would be functionally equivalent to my existing Canon SD 870 IS: small and light, decent still shots, decent videos.

   Since then the Pentax has become my default camera.

   Pros:
   
   decent image quality
   
   some neat “smart” modes
   
   waterproof and dust resistant means no worries about child-play environments!

   Cons:
   
   auto-focus seems to get it wrong more often than my Canon
   
   no one-button swap between still and movie mode
   
   zoom quality seems lower
   
   zooming during video has big big focus issues
   
   short battery life per charging

   If I only had one camera for all occaisions, those cons might be overwhelming, but I also have a Nikon D90 which I use for formal occaisions or highly dramatic scenery. So, for my “everyday” use, I’m swayed by the robust nature of the waterproof housing.

   Let me specifically address the video cons. First, my Canon (and all its ancestors) has a simple physical switch to move from still mode to movie mode. The Pentax has a menu system which requires me to push one button, navigate over a few places, and push again. Under pressure of capturing a kid in action, that’s a recipe for failure. Second, the zoom may be less nice because of the inability to have a lens poking out the front, but I am puzzled by what seems to be the complete failure of the auto-focus when I zoom during a video.

   Depending on your needs, you may weigh these issues differently. For me, this camera is great solution.

   I bought the W60 early this summer when my W10 was damaged in an accident. I am extremely disappointed in the W60.

   The user interface is basically fine, but I find it hard to press the separate buttons (I always feel fat-fingered on it). The W10 in contrast was much easier to manipulate.

   The waterproof housing is noticeably improved over the W10.

   The battery has almost no lifespan. I get about 60 pictures (no flash) before I have to recharge it. Even more annoying, the battery doesn’t sit terribly well in the recharger, so you have to be careful to ensure that it’s actually recharging. I find it *exceedingly* annoying that you can’t recharge this camera from the USB port — you plug in the camera to download the pictures, and even if the camera is attached to a wall outlet, the battery fails. I am also disappointed that they changed the battery shape from the W10 — I have perfectly good batteries from that camera, and had to buy new ones for this; not very environmentally friendly!

   The flash is weaker that it was in the W10; and it’s now almost useless. I get about 1.5 meters (4 feet) of range before the light fails — that’s extremely close up.

   The focus is quite poor. Even when in “portrait” mode (when it tries to look for faces), the camera does not always focus on the face it found. About 1/3 of my photos are out-of-focus. (On the W10, I’d only have problems when the subject was moving.) My suspicion is not that the focus mechanism itself is poor, but the algorithm that decides on where to focus picks the wrong item.

   About 4 weeks after I purchased the camera, the power switch failed. (It took quite some googling to figure out what the problem was, as the manual only says to recharge the battery.) Since I was on vacation at the time, I was VERY happy that I had a second camera with me. I sent it back to the manufacturer for repair, and it was returned about 10 days later. They had corrected the power switch, focus, and zoom block. It still can’t focus well.

   The quality of underwater photos is slightly improved over the W10, but given that you’re moving in the water and the fish are moving, the focus problem is really serious.

   Overall, I’m very disappointed. Even more so because I loved the W10, and was really looking forward to the next generation.

   My Optio W10 died on me, and while it had it’s faults it was a good reliable camera. The W60 has some of the same complaints (slow to take pics, not good in low light, etc) but the images are even worse than the W10. I wouldn’t recommend this camera. I haven’t used the waterproof feature yet…plan on doing that in a couple weeks at the beach.

   Worked very well on a holiday to the sand and surf. Rinsing in fresh water after a day of use helps. Was late rinsing once and battery door became sticky. Took a good cleaning with a toothbrush to remedy. Underwater pictures and videos were very good and battery life is good.

   Seeing as how this is a waterproof camera I’d say they probably really meant for it to be used more in the outdoor environment. This pics it takes then are typically excellent quality. Indoors or lower light however, suck. They are grainy, fuzzy and, well, crap. *sigh*

   The camera is small and very portable. I used it in the pool and it had no problems at all. But since it takes crappy indoor pics I’m looking for another camera for more full time use. I imagine I’ll probably love this one on vacation at the beach.

   Overall it’s not a BAD camera, and likely does exactly what it was meant to do. But it’s not a good overall type camera.

   My husband and I bought this camera for our first anniversary trip because we wanted to use it underwater when we went snokeling. Every time we tried to use the camera underwater it would shut off. The underwater housing was very bulky and it was really hard to see the screen underwater. I took some pictures above water and they turned out pretty well but there was one that was distorted.

   Overall, this camera is cheap and is definitely not as good as the description and features make it out to be.

   I have quite a few cameras and few professional ones, I just wanted one to take some underwater pictures the only sad part is I never got chance to check all the settings and after I was back I found that I can increase the brightness in settings, I was not able to clearly see the objects during the day or under water. I wont know that until I take a next trip. Otherwise the camera is good, did all it says in the manual and I am happy with it. took lot of videos thru this. The zoom is digital so I have used it once or twice only as I am not a digital zoom guy.

    What a wonderful alternative to taking underwater pictures. I was looking into purchasing underwater housing case for my Sony Cybershot DSCW100 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3 x Optical Zoom which would of cost me almost $200 and I was also looking at underwater cameras which are way too expensive for me to consider. This is a terrific way to protect your camera from water, sand and even snow. I quickly tried it at home when I received it and YES BY GOLLY no water or moisture was inside the case! The optical lens sometimes does interfere with the camera’s zooms lens. Check out the pictures I posted so you can see for yourself how crystal clear the pictures look. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

    I ordered the DicaPac case DicaPac WP310 160x105mm Medium Alfa Waterproof Digital Camera Case with Optical Lens (Clear)to use with my Sony Cybershot DSC-P200, as I was going on a Caribbean cruise with a stop at Grand Cayman Island, known for great diving and snorkeling. I tested the pac in my kitchen sink, and was happy with the resulting photo I took of myself from underwater. I went ahead and snorkeled at Grand Cayman with my camera inside the DicaPac, taking a dozen pictures or so. The camera stayed well protected from moisture. However, it is not a snug fit inside the bag. You need to zoom out in order to avoid a black ring in your photos (from the optical lens ring). I was able to use the flash which helped greatly in photo quality underwater. I purchased this particular version because it was clear on the top side–I noticed another version had the dark band on top which would make seeing your top camera controls much more difficult. The bag floats, and I used the accompanying strap around my neck, which perhaps could have been a little longer, or it may have been better to wrap the strap around my wrist instead. Most of my pictures were just fine, considering it is quite difficult to remain still while snorkeling, and it was hard to see the camera screen through the bag and my fogging dive mask! I would recommend this as a cost effective way to get some underwater photos while snorkeling.

    I agree with everything Lowell Carter said. I bought this for a Caribbean cruise and didnt want to spend $150 for a hard case. It fit the Canon Powershot SD890IS perfectly. The only gripe I have is being able to zoom…it’s quite difficult with the Canon, but otherwise I’m really glad I bought this for our trip. it was great for the beach as well to simply keep sand out of the camera. you can just unscrew the lens cap to avoid any of the black rings being in your pics when you are on dry land.

    I was very happy to find this water-proof case for my camera as I had been thinking of buying a specific waterproof digital camera but this was much more affordable! I have a Canon Power Shot A1100 IS, and although at the time I couldn’t find which models this worked for, I simply measured my camera and picked out the DICAPac model as per the measurements listed and it worked great.

    When you read the instructions, you’ll find that they recommend to perform a waterproof test first with a tissue prior to using it with your camera. That gave me additional confidence that it was safe for my camera.

    It was a snug fit for my camera, but not a problem really, I just had to patiently work it in. My main purpose is just to take underwater pool shots of my kids. I found it’s really hard to see the digital display on my camera when I’m underwater and in the bright sunlight. I don’t think that’s a fault of this case though, it’s just the limitations of an LCD screen in the bright bright sun… and then add to that trying to view it under water wearing goggles. I found that after some practice I got much better at it and am very happy with my purchase.

    Purchased to use with my Fuji F70 EXR P&S camera instead buying throwaway underwater cameras while in St. Thomas and Grand Turk (crystal clear water 30+ft).

    Positives: 1) kept camera dry and ‘no worries’ there.
    
    2) got some ‘useable’ images
    
    3) lens did not appear to adversely affect the image quality. At surface of water or above water it worked well, so a good option for beach use.

    Negatives: 1) hard to get the camera into the bag even though it was the ‘recommended’ size.
    
    2) once in the bag, the camera moved around WAY too easily, which was a problem for zoom extension.
    
    3) my camera forces a shutdown when zoom extends in the bag unless it is PERFECTLY aligned with the hole (not easy)
    
    4) my camera could not be zoomed the full 10X while in the bag (even with the joke of an ‘extension’ they provide), but needed some zoom to avoid a
    
    ’round’ image.
    
    5) I could not see the LCD screen (too dark) while in the bag so I was shooting in the dark. This may be a function of the camera, I dunno.
    
    6) no manual, no ‘helpful hints’. Instructions poorly written (though I was able to figure it out, so…)

    Conclusion: While you’d think that I’m very down on this bag, I think it could be made to work well enough. For me, I’d want to make a foam insert to align
    
    my camera to the hole and to secure it in place. I’d need to play with it enough to figure out what setting(s) would work while using it. If
    
    you need to change settings while using underwater, forget it unless they are button settings; very difficult to turn a ‘wheel’ of the
    
    camera, and zooming is do-able but not easy. I do think I’d have liked the bag much better if I could have figured out what settings to use. For
    
    1st time use, ok but disappointing. With experience and the right camera (hopefully that you know can take underwater images well) I’d say the
    
    bag will work. Durability seems to be adequate but be careful, as you’d feel bad ruining a good camera!

    I will say that the product has some quirks. 1) If you have pets, keep the case in the box. A single bite will kill this soft case. 2) The case makes in-water adjustment difficult, my “wheel” only turned clockwise – familiarize yourself with switching between picture and video ahead of time. 3)Some small black edges of the lens section can obscure corners of shots – zoom in about 1.5x power, monitor and readjust frequently, or create a small shim to keep the camera centered. 4) Lastly, I found that the screen on my camera was hard to see unless all air was removed and the plastic was pressed firmly into the camera (like a cling-on sticker) – do this and you’ll be able to review your shots quickly while under water.

    I have attached a short video of an atoll south of Maui. The camera (and camera guy) aren’t the best, but you get the idea.

    Great product! My most satisfying Amazon buy of recent memory.

    Overall, this product was everything I expected. It was probably even better quality. However, you need to keep in mind that this case comes in different sizes but a limited number of sizes. They are not made for specific cameras. I purchased the WP110 camera which is listed as being compatible for many of the Casio Exilim cameras. I used it with an older model Z40 and a newer model S10. The case worked really well with the Z40. However (although no fault of the case), I couldn’t read the LCD screen on the Z40 underwater. It was like looking at it in bright sunlight. So I used the S10… I could see the LCD fine on this camera, but it is a lot thinner and therefore smaller than the case. Both of the cameras slid around a bit, but the smaller the camera, the more it will slide. As a result, many pictures will have a black shadow from the tube on the bottom left and/or right corners. You can line it up, but that’s kind of a pain. And it’s hard to take vertical shots. Also, the S10 camera’s flash is close to the lens… so close in fact, that sometimes it flashes partially inside the lens tube. This creates a bright white glare in the top right corner of the pictures. Oddly, this affected pictures more on land than underwater. In summary, the case is good quality, easy to use, and works well. However, it works best when the camera is closer to the maximum size for the model. Otherwise, the camera will move around causing black shadows and/or white glare spots. You can always crop these out later though, so it’s still way better than using a disposable underwater camera and cheaper than buying a case made specifically for the camera.

    Mind you, this is not for deep water scuba diving… I used it for my casio exilim camera (z- series) and it worked really well. Not a drop of water on my camera! I used this while we were on vacation, and got some really funny pictures in the pool- both above and under the water. The pictures are better than a crappy disposable. It certainly took the stress out of taking my camera to the beach, too- no worry about sand ruining my camera- and I had room to stash my (small) cell phone inside when we were wading in the spray one morning. (which is probably not recommended, but it worked out ok for a short time) The only downside, as mentioned before, is that the very small cameras will tend to shift inside- leaving you with a picture of the ring from the lens part. Leaving the lens on the camera partially zoomed to line it up and stuffing some paper towels around the camera to make the fit more snug helped somewhat. It was worth the money for casual/recreational use for funny “happy hour in the pool” pictures.

    I use it on my Canon SD780 IS and also on my past camera Canon SD1000. First off the hard case by Canon is $175, that’s getting close to the cost of my camera. If I was scuba diving weekly, I would than consider it. For me, the case allowed me to take my camera on trips I wouldn’t be able to take photos and videos. I’ve used it on the beach, pool parties, snorkeling in the Galapagos Islands and River Rafting / Kayaking down the Kern River (level 4). Haven’t had any leakage and gotten some great footage. My only dislike is that it doesn’t fit my camera perfectly. It will move around unless you put some paper towels inside to prevent that from happening. If it does move around than your picture gets a little blocked by the casing. It however, can be a cool effect in some photos, but generally not. I’ve recently switched from paper towels to foam. This works a lot better. For the price it is definitely worth it….it’s either that or never having incredible underwater photos/videos. I give it 5 stars for the price of allowing me to take my camera underwater. It also comes with a shoelace strap to put around your neck. Buy it… you won’t regret it!!!

    I purchased this as an alternative to the expensive hard cases I also looked at costing over a hundred dollars. I have a nikon coolpix which is about 1.5″x3.0″ with a pop out lens, and it fits well in the small case. I took the camera to the pool to try it out, and the images are indistinguishable from pictures taken without the bag. The case is flexible, so the buttons on the camera are activated by pressing through the plastic. This is not a problem for a person with good dexterity, but could cause some frustration for a person who has trouble with small buttons. One small issue is that if the lens of the camera is misaligned with the the black plastic protrusion that accomodates the lens, the image can be slightly occluded. For me it’s not a big problem because I’m just having fun, and I’ll crop out anything I don’t what in the picture.

    The case works underwater as described. I took great stills and video and it operates as expected. However, I noticed that even in mild heat (in the car trunk for 2 hours), the acrylic window in front of the camera lens starts developing a “foggy halo”, which makes the camera unusable until it cools down for a good hour. Now the case travels with me in the front of the car to stay air conditioned, but this is a flaw I would have not expected in a case that seems otherwise well constructed.
    
    This is the third case I own and I never had this problem before (I should have stayed with Sony).
    
    In my opinion, the diffusion filter for the flash and the shoulder sling are fairly useless accessories. I wish Canon had focused on putting more care on the choice of material instead.

    Most people seem to buy the blue, which now makes some sense to me. I bought the red because I thought it would be easier to see if it sank to the bottom of some body of water, but in some of the pictures, I’ve noticed an orange haze to the right side of the image, particularly if I’m in smart-auto mode. I’ve not noticed it in other modes. I’m not positive, but I suspect it may have something to do with a color cast from the camera.

    In other modes, however, it seems to take great pictures. I’ve been using an olympus for years and was never satisfied with the picture quality. But the samsung is a significant improvement, especially outdoors.

    I’ve only owned the camera for two weeks. I’ve taken flash photography indoors, and noticed that it does well when the subject is up close, but not so well when farther away. I’ve also taken it on a white water kayaking trip and most (not all) of the pictures came out clear, vibrant, and in focus.

    The video is great. The picture and sound are both clear. I’ve not noticed any noise when zooming in/out during video. Stabilization isn’t too useful though.

    All in all, a great camera for the price.

    Excellent case, particularly for the price. I live on the Big Island where the reef is only a 15min drive, thus get to use my gear every few weeks. I bought the G11 as an everyday carry camera and a dive camera. The case is setup with a tray and a Sea&Sea YS-110 flash unit. Photo quality is excellent, challenging much larger DSLR cameras for quality in a unit that costs far less. The only major issue with using the G11 underwater is the relatively slow shutter response.

    Unlike some cases, all controls are accessible, with the sole exception of the thumbwheel. To adjust values that require the thumbwheel, hold the shortcut button down and use the left and right buttons on the rocker to adjust up and down. A two hand workaround, but there is a way.

    The case is better than previous WP-DC21 for the G9, some of the controls have been moved for better access for fat fingers in dive gloves. I have yet to accidentally power off the camera when trying to take a photo with this case.

    Yes, the case has no warranty, expected in an underwater case where a small grain of sand or poor maintenance of the seals can cause a leak. If you can not afford to lose a camera, don’t take it 30m underwater.

    I purchased this case from Amazon on November 14th. I took it on a dive on January 7th. I followed all instructions, lubricating the gasket, testing it on a snorkeling trip, etc. On the first dive to 60 feet with this case I took 78 wonderful pictures but the case started to leak on the way back up to the surface (the leak started at about 20 feet, during decompression). Although there was only a small amount of water in the case it did damage the camera — initially causing the camera to turn off immediately whenever it was turned on with an “E31″ error. After drying out for a day the camera now does work, although there is some damage to the LDC screen from mineral deposits left when the moisture that worked its way into the LDC screen evaporated.

    Here is my warning about this case — IT HAS NO WARRANTY!!! NONE. I just talked (January 15th) to both a Canon service representative and a supervisor (“Marvin”), and was explicitly told that Canon offers no warranty on their underwater cases. Even though the case comes in a Canon box that has claims stated on it — that this is a “Waterproof Case” and that it is good to “40m/130 feet” — the case has no warranty. This is simply unacceptable and retailers like Amazon that sell this product an an “Underwater case” that is “Waterproof” should stop doing so until an explicit warranty is included with the product.

    I was given an address to send this case to for “testing,” but I was explicitly told that Canon was under NO LEGAL obligation to either fix or replace this case. Buyer beware and avoid purchasing all Canon underwater cases until Canon accepts some legal responsibility that products which they make and market can live up to the description that they print on the box.

    Very recent purchase, and I’ve only used it on about 15 dives but I’ve been very pleased. The only issue I’ve had is a stuck shutter button at 85′ feet when diving a wreck. I had to power off between shots. It released itself at the safety stop and I noticed after the dive that there was a cut out in the clear plastic around the shutter button that I could have used to insert a pick and relase it manualy. It may have been due to the silty nature of the wreck interior and it seems to have been a freak accident – one that I now know how to correct without losing shots. I have no complaints with the Canon housing at all.

    I’m a newly certified diver and was looking for an affordable but good quality option for taking underwater photos. The case for my SLR ran upwards of $1,400 so I tried the WP-DC34 with the Canon G11 and am absolutely thrilled with the results! Some of the controls (e.g. zoom) are easier to use with the housing than without. I’d recommend this for a serious amateur on a budget.

    I have been so hesitant in getting this marine case, after hearing a lot of bad reviews about its predecessors (casings for the g7 and g9) from fellow divers like myself. They claim that Canon makes bad cases, and that they haven’t perfected it yet. Taking into consideration that the G10 is a pretty pricey camera, I was so adamant about purchasing the casing lest my g10 gets soaked.
    
    However the options are waaay too pricey for me. They even cost more than the camera itself. And so I took a chance and bought it, assuring myself that I’ve used about 3 Canon-made housings in the past and they we’re very well-built.
    
    I took it diving with me, the deepest at 100 feet, and it never gave me problems. If you are to take it diving, I suggest that you bring down the casing first, without the camera, and put a sheet of tissue in the casing. If the tissue gets wet, then something must be wrong with how you sealed it, and check the o-ring again. I strongly suggest that you search the web for o-ring maintenance tips and follow it diligently. And keep it from impact. Make sure you wrap it in cloth or something to cushion it against blows or scratches.
    
    I guess those that had so-called problems with their casings didn’t handle the o-rings properly, or maybe they banged their casings somehow.
    
    I just gave it 4 stars because there’s no way that you can manipulate the control dial. The solution would be to create custom settings.
    
    Go get it, take good care of it, and spend the rest of the money on a decent strobe.

    UPDATE (Jan 1, 2010): This update is long overdue. Got stuck with so many things. The control dial CAN be manipulated after all. Hold down the “S” button on the G10 (found on the upper left corner of the LCD below the exposure dial), then press left or right button of the control dial. Please see the reviews of “hellfire’ and “andres” for this same product. Thanks to you guys. My apologies. I change my rating from 4 to 5 stars.

    I am a complete novice when it comes to underwater photography – not above water though… So I had the G10 and was going to Belize on vacation for sun and fun and snorcheling. I decided to buy this case as it actually seemed quite reasonable for what it offers. Let’s get to it.

    I will list the cons first.

    * The plastic of the case is rather soft, so even though I only went on three snorcheling trips with it, I ended up with a ton of scratches on it, and I WAS trying to be very careful.
    
    * The plastic of the case – and across the display – is very glossy. So when you are snorcheling close to the surface and the sun is shining, you can barely see anything on the display, it is just reflecting the brightness of the sea surface above you. I assume this would not be as much of a problem if you are scuba diving and further down in the water.
    
    * Being spoiled from the ability to change just about any setting on this camera while it is in its case, it is a shame you can’t manipulate the ring control in the back which changes aperture or shutter speed depending on which mode you are in.

    Neutral:

    * The flash works surprisingly well under water, however just for very short distances. It is also very close to the lens so that if the water is not perfectly clear, it will light up every dirt molecule and render the picture worthless.
    
    * The case is surprisingly large. Originally I thought this might be a nice combo for the beach or in general maybe in the rain – but the case is about the size of a Canon XTi with a 18-55mm lens on it and really too large to casually carry with you to the beach etc… Also, at a beach in the sand I would be very worried again about scratching the plastic.
    
    * You should know your camera well because the labels on the buttons are just stamped into the clear plastic and you really can’t decipher them under water.

    Positives:

    * Just about everything else. The case is easy to use and all the buttons are accessible (except the ring as I mentioned). The case is completely waterproof, I didn’t have one hint of water inside it. I did take it down to about 25 feet a few times.
    
    I really enjoyed taking my G10 under water. It looks like I will keep my G10 for a long time since I don’t think I will buy another underwater case anytime soon. The G10/WP-DC28 combo will be my underwater kit for the extended future…

    I read a lot of reviews and tips and ended up buying a few silica gel packs from Ebay (very cheap) in order to keep possible fogging in the case to a minimum. I never tried the case without the packs, so I don’t know if fogging would have been a problem, but with a pack, I never saw any fogging. I’m not a big fan of RAW with point and shoots, so I used JPG and the underwater setting of the G10. This was a pretty good combo, and I didn’t have to do a lot of color correcting in Photoshop. I could imagine that if you go deeper, RAW would become more of a necessity to get the colors right. I also took some videos under water, and they came out quite nice.

    All in all, I would highly recommend this underwater case despite the few issues it has. I will upload a few pictures of the case and the photos I have taken.

    This is my second Canon UW housing–1st was Canon 860 and this for a G-10. On my first dive (in the tropics)I experienced fogging on inside of case and lost some interesting shots–not sure what caused it but was easily remedied by inserting small silica pack that lasted for the next 7 days. No probs with many dives to ~30M. Suggestions: find a red warming filter to fit housing; shoot in RAW and adjust in computer processing; use and external UW strobe as in-camera flash (even w/diffuser) highlights water particles (scatter) and design of housing blocks 1/2 of flash coverage. Absolutely easy to use and great results for the money!

    The product is very well crafted, with good finishing, and it comes with good instructions on how to keep it. It also comes with a lubricant for the O-ring, and teaches exactly how to do it.
    
    Maybe it should come with something like a sheet with the sayings “read this first” and advise you not to make the first underwater trial with the camera in the case, like i stupidly did, and try something like it was suggested in the first review. Lukily, nothing went wrong, and the O-ring was very well placed.
    
    Also, i missed pictures of the straps of the product and the other parts of the product on the net.
    
    About the dial, sure it’s not something as easy as the other buttons, but i had no problem working with it.
    
    I also missed information like how to keep it when not in use, if i should take the oring out and keep it closed or not.

    Over the past several years, I have used the Canon G6, G9, and now use the G10 for 75% of my outdoor photography. In general, my G10 lives in its fabulous waterproof case virtually 24/7, and I rarely leave home without them. This case keeps my G10 clean, dust free, and protected from virtually all elements.

    Yes, Canon’s waterproof cases could be made stronger – with high-impact materials, but price may greatly increase under such development.

    In appreciation for this case and its technology, Canon’s engineers really did a great job taking countless man hours to design a waterproof, fully functioning case. There aren’t many companies, if any, whom took time decades ago to create such a product.

    Olympus and other companies are [finally] now pioneering the creation of waterproof, shock resistant cameras. However, they do not compare to the features of the G10 yet. It is only a matter of time before innovation improves, and until then the Canon waterproof case proves to be the best.

When it arrived, the first thing I did was a tissue test. Put some toilet paper inside and made sure there was no debris on the seal, then submerged it in the kitchen sink for a while. Tissue was dry, and so we were off to test this puppy in the pool at the YMCA. It worked great! I had to take the strap off of my flip for it to fit, but this case does come with a yellow strap that you can add to it. It floats, so no need for dive for your flip if you lose your grip. As another reviewer mentioned, make sure you have the right cam to fit this case. I see reviews of people that have bought the 1st gen watercase to fit the 2nd gen ultra hd’s and giving bad reviews. There is not a way to attach this to a tripod that I can tell, and the hinge at the bottom of the case prevents it from standing up on its own. You will need to capture footage with someone holding it, or find a clever way to prop it up. I think if you are dilligent about checking the seal with each use, your flip will be fine. It states in the instructions that even one grain of sand, or a single strand of hair can cause leaks. I am exicited for next summer to enjoy this in our backyard pool, and the water rides at Cedar Point!

    I bought this with the intention of using this in snow instead of water. It’s nice because I can pull it out when its dumping and not have to worry about damaging my flip camera. The buttons are easy to function with your gloves on. I can pull it out, shoot some video, and toss it back in my pocket without worrying about getting the camera wet or taking off my gloves.

    I purchased this case along with the Flip Ultra HD camera about a month ago in order to use it on vacation in the Caribbean. Both the camera and the case were easy to use… I read another user’s review that said that the wrist strap for the camera wouldn’t fit in the underwater case, so I didn’t even both attaching it. The camera fits perfectly into the case, and the case seals tightly and easily. All of the buttons on the case operate the camera with ease as if there was no barrier in between. My boyfriend and I used the camera underwater on several snorkeling adventures around Mexico, Honduras and Belize, and it worked great!! The images are all clear and the sound was incredible. Playing the videos back was like watching a show on the Discovery Channel (aside from our amateur videography skills!) , with the clear images, extreme detail, vivid colors and subtle underwater sounds of the water splashing and fish swimming by. We also were happy to keep the camera in the case during the whole trip (with the exception of taking it out to charge it) so that we could also use it by the pool, on kayaks and speed boats, and not worry about rainy weather. There were no issues with the camera or the case, no leaks at all, and we didn’t feel like we were being “extra careful” handling it. A great buy and we’ll use it in the future!

    This housing works very good if you remain on, or very close to the surface. I just returned from a trip to Hawaii where I was snorkeling. The housing kept the camera dry to depths up to 30 ft, but as I descended beneath the surface (maybe 5 ft), the water pressure started depressing the review buttons. I was unable to take video, other that on the surface. The buttons for power and record require a firm depress to function as they should. The other buttons depress very easily. In my opinion, the housing should only have power and record button functionality, or make the other buttons just as hard to depress.

    Other than the fact that you can’t take video below 3 ft, the housing worked very good. I was able to get good video of shallow reefs by keeping the camera at the surface. Additionally I had a lot of fun in the pool taking videos of the kids.

    I loved being able to take my camera snorkeling and diving with me and having all my controls available to me! Three things of note before using this device: 1-get the weights that attach to it (it floats and is difficult to control without them), 2-create some kind of easy-on, easy-off system for the camera’s neckstrap as you have to remove it each time you place in the housing, and 3-go online and find out how to white balance your camera for underwater (far better results than just using the default underwater setting).

    This is a nice, compact, functional housing that works very well for still photography. I’ve used mine to 150′ without any mechanical or leak problems. However, users should be aware that when using the video capabilities of the G9 camera, there is a fair amount of audio “creaking” resulting from case compression that gets recorded along with the video.

    I am an avid Photographer and own a few Canon cameras, so I am very familiar with the quality of most of their products. Still, I was surprised at the superior quality of this housing for the relative low cost. It fits my Canon G9 perfectly and most of the controls can be accessed easily. The flash diffuser works amazingly well. If you shoot a flash photo without it, you’ll see a pronounced shadow on the lower right of the photo, caused buy the lens part of the housing being in the way. Add the diffuser and problem solved! Only 2 negatives; there should be a protective rubber lens cover to protect the lens window when carrying or storing. (I would even be willing to buy one if Canon decides to make it) Also you can’t control the thumb wheel on the back of the G9 while it’s in the housing. This only restricts the use of manual focus and manual exposure compensation while in the housing.
    
    With all that said, I have used the housing while kayaking, tested it for leaks, but have not yet used it underwater. I’ll update this review after I do.
    
    The photos I’ve taken with it are only slighly inferior to those taken without. I am very pleased.

    Update: I took some underwater shots in the pool, they look great!

    After one thousand underwater photos in Read Sea and Maldives Islands, I am still very happy.
    
    The light of the flash of the camera is very well distributed (even if it works as far as 1.5 meters/4 feet), and no artifacts come to the G9 lens even against sun light.
    
    All the commands of the G9 are usable, even if sometime I had to study the 273 pages of the G9 manual for a “backdoor” solution.
    
    For the best result, apply the old “Nikonos” techniques: manual exposure, 1/60, flash (when subject is less then 4 feet from you) and play with the aperture and ISO.
    
    Most I used 100ASA/f5.6. Try also other combinations (light condition varies from place to place) until you will be satisfied then apply your best guess before to start the diving – underwater there are a lot of think to care, and usually there is no time for changing settings. Use the Underwater filter of the G9 also with the flash.
    
    I am so satisfied that I did not use my Nikonos anymore.

    We just got back from Hawaii and took this with us when we went snorkling. This is a great product that keeps your camera dry. The only problem is that the case is a one-size-fits-all. Even though the description of the product said it would fit my Cannon SD-1000, the camera was very loose inside the case. You have to make sure that your camera lens is centered inside their lens ring when taking pictures, otherwise you’ll get a black ring around your photos. It is very difficult to do this when underwater because there is so much free play with the camera. I solved that problem by stuffing Kleenex on the two sides and the bottom of the camera so it was wedged in the case and wouldn’t move around on me. Another problem I encountered is that when I centered my camera lens in the hole, their black ring blocked half of my flash. I couldn’t get the camera positioned where the lens was centered and my flash was unubstructed.

    On the plus side – the case kept my camera dry and my pictures came out great. I was snorkling in shallow waters in the morning and didn’t need my flash, so that didn’t seem to be a problem. This is a very affordable product for underwater photography. I didn’t want to spend $300 on an underwater digital camera for just a couple of days use and I’ve tried the disposable underwater cameras without much luck. You didn’t know if you got a good picture until you had your film developed. With this product, I was able to use the camera I already had and I liked to take great unerwater shots.

    I would have given this 4 stars if it had been better fit to my camera. I would highly recommend it if you don’t mind taking the time to wedge your camera inside the case prior to going into the water. Once you’re in the water, you can’t see your display to see if your lens is centered.

    I just came back from a cruise in the Caribbean and I said many time that buying this camera case was the best idea I’d ever had. I tested it out in my sink before I left and it’s a scary idea to bring your expensive camera underwater, but it’s completely protected and safe. Needless to say, it’s amazing to have pictures (and videos!) from diving in the Caribbean. It’s also great for when it’s raining out when you’re traveling and want to take pictures. Basically, it’s well worth the money, even if you only use it once or twice, but it’s a great thing to protect your camera against the elements in general.

    A cheaper less sophisticated approach that fit my price budget. The plastic is supple enough to accommodate several point and shoot camera models. Hasn’t leaked on me yet, although i don’t think it would be wise to open and close it while on the beach. A feature that is missing and would be helpful is an external tripod thread. The roll up side extends the cameras width by an inch and half and doubles quite well as a grip with a robust strap system. Aside from switching batteries and chips, there isn’t much reason to remove the camera in most situations, save for a little vignetting with the flash. The cap to the extended lens barrel can be unscrewed for cleaning/defogging or expelling air. (just don’t do it underwater =)) The lens extension does not collapse by design so don’t plan on dropping this in your pocket after a swim.

    After reading some encouraging reviews I ordered the waterproof case for my digital camera. Following the tips from those reviews I used rolled pieces of soft cloth to help the camera “fit” inside the bag,tested it at home in a sink of water to make sure it was waterproof (it IS) and practiced taking pictures around the house. All fine and good. However, when snorkeling it was difficult to press the camera buttons through the plastic case; but the most frustrating part was how the plastic case would “stick” to the camera, causing glare that made it almost impossible to “see” where you were aiming. It would have been better to just pick up a disposable underwater camera (which I had used successfully the previous month on a whale watching trip in Mexico). At least I would have some decent photos of the colorful fish & coral to remember from our Caribbean vacation. I would NOT recommend this produt.
