Review by Christopher J. Jurado for Sony 50mm f/1.8 SAM DT Lens for Sony Alpha Digital SLR Cameras
    Rating:
    Things I like:

    1. Sharp and great colors! I’ve been using my kit lens for a while, and I wanted a lens for portraits. The quality of the images make it my preferred lens, and I only resort to my kit zoom lenses during events where I am unable to get close.

    2. Light. Agreed that it is mostly plastic, but it is sturdy and looks good. I do not regret this purchase at all due to build quality.

    3. Fast! Indoor photos can be shot by hand with natural light due to the large f1.8 aperture. Built in steady shot in every Sony Alpha makes this even better. Shutter speed indoors using just natural light (no flash!) shooting away from the windows can range between 1/8 to 1/120 of a second from ISO 100 to 400. Moving to higher ISO values (which my zooms would have done in order to get similar shots) would probably match the speed, but would have introduced much more noise.

    4. Smooth bokeh. None of this hexagonal stuff you see in other lenses.

    Things I don’t like.

    1. AF/MF switch. I have one on my camera, I don’t need one on my lens. In order to attain full manual focus I need to swith both the lens and body.

    2. 49mm filters. Why not the usual 55mm?

    3. Not full frame. If you don’t own an A900, and don’t ever plan of upgrading to one – this doesn’t matter to you.

I would recommend this lens to EVERYONE! It is cheap, and the quality of the images are superb! Furthermore, the fixed focal length forces a photographer to be more aware of how he/she is composing photographs. The lazy method of zooming in and out to fit the subject is no longer applicable. You have to move, and take into consideration objects around the subject. So in the end – you will be a better photographer – or a frustrated one due to the lack of zoom.

    Rating:
the sony 50 mm takes excellent pictures indoors if you use the A- aperture setting and dial down to 1/8 great sharp pictures without the need for a flash. But everyone should have a 50 mm in their kit. it is also great for portraits as to the wider aperature. Well worth the money and takes great pictures.

Review by deal getter for Sony 50mm f/1.8 SAM DT Lens for Sony Alpha Digital SLR Cameras
    Rating:
pretty fast lens, and the pictures look great. Not as great as I thought it would be in low light, much better than my kit lens, but pictures are still blurred. I am still working on getting the hang of it, but so far so good. Can’t go wrong with the price, and re-sale value isn’t bad.

my most favorite lens…. amazing quality of pics…. autofocus could have been faster and sony should have included a lens hood…. this lens catches light from everywhere so hood is a necessary item… anyway how much can a plastic ring can cost !!! come on sony !

really cant think of any other problems… the lens is awesome the glass is perfect… for the price this lens is a gem…. definitely a must have for all sony dslr owners…

Review by Steve Zhou for Sony 50mm f/1.8 SAM DT Lens for Sony Alpha Digital SLR Cameras
    Rating:
I pair this up with my sony A350 and I am quite pleased with the outcomes. It is sharp when stoppoing down to 2.0. There is also a 1.4 version. Of course you have to pay for the improvement. Have said that, this lens is not for full-frame, so think about it if you are gonna upgrade your gears. If you are just looking for a walk-around portrait lens, get it.

  6. D. Moffett says:

Review by D. Moffett for USA Gear Neoprene FlexSleeve for Nikon, Canon EOS, and Sony Alpha Digital SLR Cameras
    Rating:
i’m using this case for a canon XSi, and so far its great. it keeps the camera safe from bumps and scratches. if you want a case to seal a camera, or keep dust out completely, this isnt the case for you, on the sides (where the camera strap is) there are gaps, obviously for the strap, but if outside in the dust, there’s a chance dust could get on the camera. however, i very much like the feel of the case, if any of you have felt the neoprene cases for macbooks or macbook pros, its similar, though not quite as form-fitting.

Pros: lightweight, carry anywhere and everywhere, protects from bumps, scratches and dings. nice to hold, nice to feel.

Cons: not dust, or water, proof. wont protect camera from shoulder-height falls.

if you’re just looking for a case to keep the camera in, get it. if you’d prefer a solid case to protect from falls, consider another bag.

  7. Aldus Snow says:

Review by Aldus Snow for USA Gear Neoprene FlexSleeve for Nikon, Canon EOS, and Sony Alpha Digital SLR Cameras
    Rating:
I’m pretty rough with my cameras, I usually don’t carry bag if I can get away with it, which means just me and my camera. A lot of times though, my camera gets bumped into walls or other things when I’m turning around quickly or just not paying attention. I also tend to have my camera sitting on the passengar seat and a few times I’ve slammed on the brakes and it’s gone flying and now it’s got some dings. I looked into the rubberized armor but wasn’t really feeling it, then I found this flex sleeve. It has snaps so you can get your camera out fast and it can attach to your belt loop so you dont have to put it around. It’s super light weight and it protects my camera really well from those little bumps and dings. I wish i had gotten this earlier! absolutely perfect if you don’t want to carry a case but still protect your camera.

  8. Honest Jack says:

Review by Honest Jack for USA Gear Neoprene FlexSleeve for Nikon, Canon EOS, and Sony Alpha Digital SLR Cameras
    Rating:
I tried to use this product on my Nikon D5000 and found that it really was too tight with my 18-55 lens. Materials are very thin and would not offer much protection other than scratches. To open and close you need to use very difficult snaps. This product was not worth anywhere near the price.

  9. M. Wood says:

Review by M. Wood for USA Gear Neoprene FlexSleeve for Nikon, Canon EOS, and Sony Alpha Digital SLR Cameras
    Rating:
Haven’t used it for too long, but it seems to be a good product. I bought it largely because I haven’t found a camera bag that I like yet, so I am improvising with an old pocketbook and some padding. I am getting individual wraps for the lenses too. It’s also nice when I am carrying it around on my shoulder and it bumps into something. I don’t quite know what to do with it when I take it off to shoot, but I’m figuring it out. Overall it offers lightweight protection that doesn’t take up too much room, and I am pretty gentle with my things.

  10. Thomas T. Pham says:

Review by Thomas T. Pham for USA Gear Neoprene FlexSleeve for Nikon, Canon EOS, and Sony Alpha Digital SLR Cameras
    Rating:
This works great. It fits my T2i just fine. With the 55-250 lens, its a little bit tight. Although not worth knocking down a star, there is this velcro on the bottom which I assume its suppose to be for a belt loop. Not sure if it is, and if it is for a belt loop, velcro is not strong enough to hold a DSLR camera. other than that, it works fine.

  11. Ray says:

Review by Ray for Opteka Microfiber Deluxe Photo/Video Camera Gadget Bag for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Kodak, Panasonic, and Fuji Digital Cameras
    Rating:
It is a basic camera bag but has sufficient pockets to accommodate accessories like spare batteries, cords, chargers, memory cards etc. The interior is protective enough for the camera body. Seems rugged on the whole though only time will tell how durable it is. On the other hand, I am not into safaris and jumping out of pickups to snap pictures of butterflies and such. So it should last a while… For the price, you can’t go wrong.

  12. Kamil Nowakowski says:

Review by Kamil Nowakowski for Opteka Microfiber Deluxe Photo/Video Camera Gadget Bag for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Kodak, Panasonic, and Fuji Digital Cameras

VERY CHEAP quality, I’ve had mine for a few months(dont use it very often) and it allready looks like its been through war.It has rips at the seams in many places. If you’re on a budget and need a bag you can go with this or just wait till you collect enough money for a better bag. Like with everything else, you get what you pay for.

Review by Exodeth for Opteka Microfiber Deluxe Photo/Video Camera Gadget Bag for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Kodak, Panasonic, and Fuji Digital Cameras
    Rating:
I knew what I was getting myself into with this bag. I just needed something that can carry my dslr until I can afford a better bag. Even then though, I still ended up underestimating this bag’s shoddiness. It’s laughable that it actually came with a cardstock label attached, that reads “lifetime warranty”. The zippers practically blew up upon itself through one day of light use and I can’t seem to keep the velcro stuck to eachother.. If it weren’t for the fact that it came with dividers that neatly separate my cam and flash, I would have somehow researched a way to give this product a negative star. Oh and yes, it is pretty small inside. I can barely fit my cam and flash, let alone any additional lens. The manual fits nicely though in the outside pocket.

  15. axs says:

Review by axs for Opteka Microfiber Deluxe Photo/Video Camera Gadget Bag for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Kodak, Panasonic, and Fuji Digital Cameras
    Rating:
First things first, the image shows ‘two’ main compartments in the bag. This is incorrect. It comes with only one compartment.

The bag is of decent quality, but for the price it definitely is ok.

I have canon rebel xs with 18-55 (attached to the camera) and 55-250mm lens and both fit well in the bag.

  16. S. LIM says:

However…to receive this amazingly nice quaility bag along w/ the battery might be the last, actual “DEAL” on the net.

Bag Features: a removable/adjustable divider in main compartment to snug up to your investment.

A three-sided zip pocket at either end.

A map/paper pouch across the entire back.

On the front, another three-sided zip pocket. BUT WAIT>>>….inside the front zip pocket; not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 elastic-hemmed, individual filter pockets! Worth the freakin’ price of admission alone!

Don’t screw around; I did all the comparison shopping 4 u!

I like the quality…very well-made. However, I had to buy a larger bag to tote the my Sony DSLR A700 and all the lenses and accesories. I have a 2x converter, 70/200mm zoom, chargers, many batteries, the vertical grip, and the camera itself with a standard Sony lens. The Tamrac Pro series fit my needs much better. The battery was a nice touch, tho. THAT I left in the kit for the larger bag. ;-)

The case is large enough for my sony 350 dslr and for at least three of my lenses. In addition to side pockets which easily hold extra memory, cords, flashes, and batteries.

I recently purchased the Sony A-200K DSLR and was in the marklet for a bag for holding my camera and an additional lens that I purchased with the camera.

While looking around I opted to go for this kit because it is a great value. For the price you get an extra battery pack (which I was going to buy anyways) and the bag. The battery pack itself is worth some 60 dollars and you would think that there is not much that can go wrong.

When I got the product, looking at the fit and finish of the bag was a little underwhelming.

The bag feels cheap and doesn’t have enough accessories inside to plan the space for you equipment. Having said that there is enough room in the bag for all your accessories and an additional lens or a flash-lite.

[Since there are no accessories provided to create additional compartments, squeezing them both may damage your equipment]

Bottom line: Because of the battery pack, this kit is a great value; but if you are in the market for a decent camera bag then look elsewhere.

I purchased this lens on the strength of reviews I have read on various websites, and I was not disappointed. For a lens at this price the quality of the optics is superb. The SAM focus motor is smooth and quiet and the lens is quite compact. It’s all plastic construction is a bit of a concern, in particular the plastic mount, however thats what keeps it lightweight. Regardless of the materials used the fit and finish of the lens is very nice. Highly recommended for those on a budget in need of a 200mm zoom, and those who need this range in a compact lightweight package.

    Rating:
The SAL55200 SAM is probably the most affordable telephoto zoom lens being offered by Sony at the moment. The model has replaced the more powerful SAL75300 lens in Sony’s more recent dual-lens camera packages. The lens can be found bundled with dual-lens packages for Sony alpha bodies such as the DSLR-230, DSLR-290, DSLR-330, DSLR-380, DSLR-390, DSLR-450, DSLR-500 and the DSLR-550.

Despite the price of the lens and its lack of reach compared to the SAL75300, and the fact that it only supports APS-C sensors, the optical performance of this affordable zoom more than makes it a worthy accessory to any hobbyist and enthusiast. Purple fringing is visible at higher focal lengths along strong constrasting edges, but the effect is very well controlled. The lens works beautifully under moderate sunlit conditions, and the reach of the lens makes it a great portrait lens when the subject is camera shy. At focal lengths between 150-200mm, the compressed perspective and increased perceived defocusing will bring out the subject beautifully while pushing the background into a haze without any obvious color distortions, typical of a good quality DSLR telephoto lens.

Unfortunately for most of us, the single lens package with the SAL1855 is more common for most newer Sony DSLR packages. Since the upgrade price from the single lens package to the dual lens package is usually bewteen 60 to 100 dollars, I would advice anyone who is out to get their first Sony DSLR (or a replacement unit) to get their hands on this lens as part of a dual-lens package. Totally worth the money.

I have used this lens 3 weeks so far, took around 300 pictures. This is the greatest lens Tamron has ever made, I think! I were so surprised about its optical performance, far more than what I expected!! I owned Tamron 28-75 before and this lens is even much better optically. Super sharp in all aperture stops, even at 2.8 ! The colors are very true-to-life and bokeh are so wonderful, creamy. The AF is pretty accurate although not very quiet ( on my D80), but still quieter than the Nikon 80-200 I tried before. The weight: lightest in the class. Built: very nice. You can take off the tripod collar easily to make it much lighter if you don’t need a tripod. If you don’t shoot pro and fast sports to earn money, this lens will meet all your needs. The only missing on this lens is VC ( or VR). But you can not require that at this price! Get it, and you will happy with it.

I have had this lens for a few weeks and it hasn’t been off my d300. It’s sharp at 2.8 and razor sharp by 5.6. In fact at 5.6 I can’t tell it from my Sigma 150 macro. It pairs very well with my Sigma 1.4 TC though the EXIF data is 1 f stop faster than reality. Macro mode is very good and with the 1.4 TC is excellent.

It can be a bit slow to AF in dim light or in macro mode focusing on small objects. If I could only have one lens this would be it.

I’ve had some limited use with this lens, but for the most part, I’m pleased on a value basis. I had one serious issue, but it was resolved by Tamron.

Image quality is very nice (on a Canon 40D), with good performance throughout the range. However, the 40D is a smaller sensor design, and the full-frame designs will be more demanding.

Build quality seems about average for this class of lens (which is higher than your typical lenses), and the size and weight are also average. Used on a 40D, the focusing is fast and accurate. Switching to manual is quick, but not as quick nor as easy as on Canon’s comparable USM designs.

Compared to the competition, the Tamron does not have a USM/HSM type motor; therefore, it’s a bit noiser (and doesn’t have the quick manual focus mentioned above). Also, Tamron is not offering a newer teleconverter option like Canon or Sigma.

The serious issue I had was with the tripod collar. It simply would not turn. You’d have to undo the collar and remove it to turn the camera. Tamron replaced the collar, and now it works as designed. An educated guess is that the first collar was slightly out-of-round.

If money’s not an issue, the Canon 70-200 (or IS version) are tough to beat. If not using teleconverters, I’d say I like it a bit better than the Sigma, but they’re close in value.

I bought the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 to replace my Nikkor 18-200 VR lens. I figured that at 2.8 flat, I would be able to get better shots. I was correct….when the shots are in focus. When I’m in daylight, the autofocus is not all that terrible, but when I’m indoors and especially when I’m in lower light (where the f/2.8 shines), it takes literally 3-6 times as long for this lens to focus as my others. Sometimes I have to wait upwards of 3-5 full seconds. I thought I might have just gotten a bad lens because the speed was so incredibly slow, but after checking the reviews online it’s pretty clear that this is a well known issue with this lens. Obviously I should expect it to perform like the Nikkor lens, which is twice the cost, but this is ridiculous. I really like Tamron lenses and don’t understand how they could possibly release a lens with this big of a problem. I should say that, if you’re willing to stick to manual focus, the image quality is top notch. I just want to make sure others who are looking at this lens are aware of the problem before they lay down that much cash.

I would rate the lens 4 stars for picture quality and 5 stars for value, but the I would have to find a way to award negative stars for the autofocus. In the end, I’m giving it 2 stars

I recently bought this lens hoping to save some money by not getting the Nikon 70-200. I returned it the next day due to several factors. I’ll keep this brief and just make a list of positives and negatives.

    Positives:

    1. Stopped down to F8 this thing was RAZOR sharp.

    2. Handling was good.

    3. Not terribly heavy.

    4. Zoom and focus rings fairly smooth.

    Negatives:

    1. Nowhere near sharp wide open. Almost unusable.

    2. Slow focusing, especially in moderate to low light.

    3. Inaccurate focusing in low light.

    4. Noisy when focusing. Didn’t really bother me, but it may bother some.

Anyway. If you are shooting static subjects and stop the lens down it is really nice. Otherwise, you get what you pay for. Don’t even thing about using this for indoor sports.

I saw this camera on a Sony flier I received in my e-mail and showed the specifications to my professor. Overall, he thought it was a pretty neat camera for it’s price.

So far I haven’t had any problems with it, and most of my pictures have come out the way I wanted them to come out. The A330 is very light and fits better in my hands than some other DSLR cameras I have been playing around with. What I really love about the camera is it’s help guide. For someone, like me, who has minimal DSLR experience the help guide is extremely useful.

I only have one question and that is “Why did I wait so long”? I haven’t had an SLR since my Minolta film camera many years ago. I tried a Nikon DSLR a few years ago and hated it…it was bulky, the photos were blurred and I had to edit almost every photo I took…so I sent it back disappointed. My first digital camera was a Sony Cybershot and I had great luck with it. I tried several of the high zoom Sony Cybershot digital cameras with great success. While I was very happy with my results, I knew it was time for me to move on to a DSLR. SOOOO, I decided to give the Sony Alpha 330 a try! WOW!! The photos are AMAZING!! I have taken hundreds of photos so far and have NOT had to edit one of them! I bought the kit with a 18-55mm & 55-200mm lens’ and the quality of my photos has improved tenfold. The technology of Sony is beyond compare and this camera gives me razor sharp, colorful photos each time I snap the shutter. I will be adding extra lens to this camera for years of professional looking photos! And I will be adding some photos here soon in the photo section. BUY THIS…you won’t be sorry.
