What Is Flash Memory?
If you’ve ever felt out of the loop when the conversation at a party turned to tech subjects that were over your head, now is the time to build up your knowledge base. One of the most common new ways to store information is with flash memory.
This term is something that you should get to know because chances are you already use it on a daily basis. Flash memory is used in a number of components that are part of most people’s everyday life.
Flash memory is something known as “non-volatile computer memory”. Non-volatile is a fancy term that means the memory device will still hold the memory whether or not the device is powered.
Your hard drive is probably the best example of non-volatile computer memory, because you (hopefully) retain all of your files even if your computer is turned off.

Things to know about Camcorders
There are three different digital camcorders that have been released since digital has become popular. They are known as the regular digital DVD camcorder, the smaller Minidv digital camcorder and the Digital8 camcorders. A digital DVD camcorder records video digitally and then saves to a DVD, combining a camcorder and digital video recording capability. It is of a slightly higher grade than a minidv digital camcorder, as it records an 80 mm version as opposed to the larger 120 mm DVD. There is yet another format of digital camcorder history, and it is known as Digital8. Digital8 camcorders work the same as Hi8 transport, except it is digital.
A digital DVD camcorder combines a camcorder with a digital video recorder, allowing you to burn what you record straight to DVD. In addition, there are several companies such as LG’s DVR that allow you to incorporate connectors to allow you to capture video from a camcorder. There are also ways to make this DVD as official looking as possible, such as adding chapter points and special graphics.
The Minidv digital camcorder can be mistaken for multiple things, such as a CD that has DVD coding within it. The term is also used to describe the three-inch DVD, having three inches in diameter. The Minidv digital camcorders cannot be played in most formats; however, Play station 3 does accept the mini DVD. The Minidv digital camcorder is used to record this mini DVD. Minidv camcorders are usually used to record small amounts of information such as music videos. There is a line of players going by the name of Warner DVD. They release different players and mini DVDs for the use of others.
Produced by Sony in 1999, Digital8 is basically a mix between digital recording and the older Hi8. Coming out slightly after Hi8, it is one of the first examples of digital recording. It uses videocassettes, but the encoding was digital.
Although the digital DVD camcorder is the most used of the three, each have their own interesting piece of history. For example, Digital8 camcorders were one of the first products to use digital encoding. The Minidv digital has rarely been used by anyone, but it does seem to provide a sense of fun to those willing to use it. The digital DVD camcorder comes with an endless supply of abilities, and even the opportunity to make a professional DVD.

MiniDV Camcorders – Oldie But Goodie or Obsolete Dinasour?
MiniDV camcorders are quickly becoming the old school recording formats for digital camcorders, and yet this format still has many benefits.
This type of camcorder should not be confused with mini camcorders, as they are not, MiniDV is synonymous with video compression and is named after the mini size of the cassette tapes onto which video is recorded or video format. MiniDV cassette formats are available in both Digital Video and High Definition format and they can fit 60 minutes of video in both DV and HDV and up to 90 minutes of DV in the lower quality setting.
The newly available recording formats, such as, Flash Memory, Hard Disk and DVD, have taken a lot of the spotlight of the MiniDV models, however it remains a model worth looking into when considering a digital camcorder for purchase.
How the MiniDV Camcorder Works
Video records to the mini cassette and is then transferred to a computer via firewire port and downloaded. The video is then edited with the use of video editing software. Once the video is edited it can be burnt onto DVD’s directly from the computer.

Technical Details About Digital DVD Players
Have you ever wondered why the DVD is so popular a medium? Moreover, it is interesting to note that in the recent times the sale of Digital DVD players have increased manifold.
The reason for such widespread popularity is awesome quality both in video and in audio. A DVD movie is compressed in a high bit rate video and audio. If one compares the encoding format of a DVD and CD, the previous generation movie storing device, then it would be found that the two encoding formats are entirely different from each other.
A CD movie is compressed using the MPEG 1 compression technique. If the bit rate is increased, it gives a higher quality video file. Due to constraints in resolution, a MPEG 1 file cannot go over 352 x 288 pixels in a CD. The CD player also does not support playing a CD which is compressed using a higher resolution.
To play a DVD, we need Digital DVD players. The term “DVD” is an acronym of Digital Video Disk. Digital DVD Players play disks made using two technical standards of DVD video and DVD audio. The player hardware has to be connected to output hardware, preferably a Television set. There are some portable players with a small LCD screen attached, but they fail to play the DVD to its full potential due to hardware portability restrictions.
Digital DVD players have to perform some basic tasks like reading a DVD in ISO or UDF 1.2 format. It can optionally decrypt the packed data using CSS and/or Macrovision. Every DVD has a protection code called the Regional Lockout Code. It limits the DVD manufactured in a certain portion of the world to be played in that part of the world only. The DVD player has the capability of changing the regional code, but it is only limited to 5 changes and no more. After that, the player will not play DVDs from other regions.
Digital DVD players have the ability to decode MPEG 2 video streams with maximum 10 Mbit/s of data. It is the peak range; for a continuous output, the data rate is 8 Mbit/s. Sound is decoded from the MP2, PCM or AC3 format. The video resolution that can be obtained from this high quality data is quite high. The maximum video resolution is 720×576.
Apart from playing DVDs, digital DVD players can play some other formats as well. They can play audio CDs, with formats such as CDDA, mp3, etc. They can also play the earlier generation CDs, that is the Video CD format. They also have the capability to play DTS, the Dolby Digital Theater System. The home cinema decoder is one of the main features of a digital DVD player. Apart from the formats mentioned above, some newer formats are coming to bolster the video scene.
All the formats are variants of MPEG, as the x264 is the MPEG 4, layer 10. Another popular compression method is the MPEG 4 ASP compression, more popularly known as DivX. PC DVD ROM players can play almost all the formats out there.
