Digital Cameras Are Small And Compact And Take Great Pictures

To get a better quality picture you need to increase the number of pixels, so the cameras with more mega pixels will have a sharper image. Underwater digital cameras are small and lightweight, and the quality is comparable to film if you go for the higher resolution shots. Fortunately, camera manufacturers now have show and tell instructions in the form of DVDs and that should help. But sometimes technical terms discourage new owners from getting up close and personal with their new cameras.
With computer access it is really easy to search Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia, to investigate many technical terms like, for instance, mega pixels (tiny, tiny dots of color). When you see that the more mega pixels a camera has, (like 10.1mp or 12.1mp), the sharper the image is going to be because there is more pixel information being recorded when you shoot.
This means that you will be able to have your photos blown up to, say, poster or mural size because there is a greater density of pixel information and the image will keep its clarity at large sizes. Photos taken with less mega pixel data appear grainy because there are fewer recorded dots of color information.
Perhaps you remember with fondness the user-friendly cameras preceding the latest addition to your collection of memory makers.
With the stalwart (if slightly boxy and heavy) 35mm film camera, inserting a roll of film was sometimes a little tricky, lining up the film edge holes on the sprockets, and being careful to shield the camera from too much light when inserting the film.
But then once that was done, your automatic film camera was good to go. Just point, shoot and no worries. Of course, you really had no idea if you actually got the photos of what you were shooting until the film was developed days or weeks later.
Stepping into the 21st century, that scenario has changed dramatically with the advent of the digital camera. You know what you have right away.
(I was amused recently while watching a TV show where an irate actor snatched a camera from a paparazzi photographer to destroy unwanted photos. A scene like this done ten years ago would have been super dramatic with the person pulling out yards of exposed film. Now it is merely a matter of snapping out a tiny memory card!)
Here are a few of the basic things to learn about your camera.
Controlling the amount of light perceived in a scene
Put very simply, the aperture (opening) of the camera lens is like the iris of the eye, enlarging to let in more light in low light situations and narrowing in brightly lit scenes like snow or water-reflecting scenes. In automatic mode, when there is too much or too little light coming through the aperture, the camera computer corrects for this.
You can manually control the amount of light by adjusting the f-stops on your camera lens. Basic f-stops range from f-1.2 to f-22. The lower number setting indicates a low light situation where the camera aperture is opened to its widest diameter to allow in more light. The high number setting shows an extremely brightly lit situation where the aperture needs to be closed down, letting in less light so that the image will not be over-exposed and washed out.
Setting the speed (ISO) at which the camera shutter opens and closes
You can control the speed (ISO) at which the photo will be taken. In film cameras, the only way to change speed was to change rolls of film, sometimes wasting much of a roll. With your digital camera, you simply switch by dialing the speed you desire.
This is important if you are, for instance, shooting sports photos where the shutter is open a tiny fraction of a second so you can capture action without blurring. Or, you may want the shutter open for long periods if you are shooting night scenes or fireworks
Selecting the focal distance
The part of your camera that is governing how far away from your subject you are shooting is the lens. If your new digital camera is an SLR (single lens reflex) model, you are a very fortunate person. The SLR model is very versatile because with the flip of a button, you can change lenses quickly and easily. You can instantly change from shooting panoramic shots to intimate portraits or switch to a macro mode of ECUs (extreme close-ups).
Even if you start out with a basic lens of 18-55mm, the time you spend learning about the effects of using different focal length lenses will reward you with the knowledge to take spectacular photos.
Your digital camera is capable of taking stunning and memorable photos if you take a little time to really get acquainted.

Touchdown Shouting Tips to Shoot Digital Photos of American Football Part 1
Posted by: | CommentsAmerican Football – a game of high stakes and even higher emotions, whether it’s the joy of watching an immaculate catch, the anguish of losing a game by a “wide-right” field-goal, or the worry of seeing your quarterback blindsided by an angry lineman with something to prove.
What makes football a high-paced, anything-can-happen event also makes it very difficult for digital photographers. You must deal with 22 players on the field (not to mention referees and coaches trying to get their points across), plus the midday sun outside or inconsistent lighting inside domes. Unless you have a press pass, you also must deal with nose-bleed seats in large stadiums and shouting and screaming fans ready to jump up at a moment’s notice to block your shot. Whew!
To help you score a touchdown with your digital photos I’ve listed 9 digital photography tips. The first five are mentioned in this article with tips 6-9 listed in Part II.
1) Don’t Get Your Hopes Up
This sounds like a lousy tip to start things off, but hear me out. If you’re sitting in nose-bleed seats and don’t own a digital camera with a large optical telephoto zoom (digital zoom doesn’t matter), football players will likely appear as just large dots in your photos. And if you’re sitting behind a tall person that loves to stand up and cheer after every play, good luck taking great photos from your seat without getting a shot of the person’s head in the way.
In either of these two scenarios, look around the stadium for aisles or walkways where you can hang around without impeding others’ views (and getting security nervous). You need a clear line of sight; an errant head or foam “we’re number one” hand appears in too many photos.
2) Buy a Camera with Plenty of Adjustment Features
I’m not saying you must run out and purchase a $1,000+ digital SLR (though it may help!), but make sure the digital camera you buy has plenty of adjustment options. At a minimum you should be able to adjust the shutter speed, ISO settings (more on both later), and metering or exposure levels to adjust to difficult lighting scenarios.
One other point – look for digital cameras with image stabilization features or lenses. Though this won’t offset any blurriness caused by football players moving at high speed, it may reduce blurriness caused by shaking when holding a camera.
3) Ensure Your Camera can be Taken to the Game
Don’t get sacked before you even get a chance to sit down. Stadiums have different rules about what you can bring to the game. At high-school or intramural games you may be able to bring any camera you desire. For college and professional games you may be limited to cheap compacts, “non-professional” digital cameras, or cameras with a small maximum telephoto zoom.
4) Bring the Right Accessories
Bringing a digital camera is just the tip of the iceberg, like the extra point that comes after a touchdown. At a minimum you need:
* A lens hood – Focus light to your camera, essential on sunny days (even if it’s cold).
* Extra memory – Great shots won’t end at halftime; don’t let your memory fill up by then.
* Extra batteries – What if a game goes to overtime?
* Waterproof camera bag – In case soda or alcoholic beverages are spilled.
* Cleaning supplies such as dry napkins and a lens-cleaning kit – See above.
If you’re attending a football game that lets you take photos on the sidelines, bring along a tripod AND if you own one, a spare digital camera. The digital camera mounted on the tripod can be focused near the center of the field to take photos without camera shake, and you can use your spare camera for quick photos if the action is outside the other camera’s range of vision. Just be prepared to move quickly if the action gets too close!
5) Don’t Forget Tailgate Parties
Tailgate parties are as much of a part of the football experience as the game itself. Bring extra memory and batteries to take photos of your friends and other fans around the stadium. Snap a photo of the person wearing a rainbow wig, the fans painted in their teams’ colors, and of impressive grilling setups.

Sad to say there that are more dishonest discount camera stores than you’ll find in almost any other business. Some of the popular photography magazines are cram full of ads advertising very low prices. What they don’t tell you is that you won’t ever actually get the camera for that price. Either they will add on $75 in shipping charges or they will be “out of stock” on that model, but they will have a more expensive model available of course. Sometimes they’ll tell you that the advertised camera is plastic in made in Taiwan, but for another $50 you can get the model made in Japan. Sometimes they’ll ship you the wrong item in the hope that it will be too much trouble to send it back. Shop in the ads at the back of magazines based only on the lowest price you see and most of the time you’ll be sorry.

There is a lot of things you can say about a digital camera, but nobody can say that they are not a lot of fun. Just being able to snap away without worrying about costs of film and see instant results is the greatest thing since the invention of photography. But please do all your friends and family a favor: just because you shoot more pictures, doesn’t mean they want to see all of them so pick out the best and only show those!

Some cameras work with AA size batteries, others come with a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery and adapter to charge it. Both systems have their merits. You can buy pretty powerful rechargeable AA batteries (2000mA), but still a Lithium-Ion battery specifically designed for your camera is likely to give better performance. If you choose a camera that uses a special battery with it’s own charger, getting a second one is probably the smart thing to do; you will one day forget to charge, stay away from a wall socket too long or take more pictures than anticipated. For other cameras you can get very powerful, but expensive, lithium disposable batteries, if you go away for longer, carrying one of those as backup could be a good idea. Personally, except for the most casual of shooter, I recommend a camera that comes with rechargeable lithium-ions, but be sure to buy a spare (or two) if you do heavy shooting.

Digital Camera Review – What the Buyers Have to Say!

Today’s Topic: Small Compact Point & Shoot Digital Cameras.
Canon PowerShot SD1000 7.1 Megapixel Digital Camera
Street price around $170.00
Pros: Compact, Bright LCD, Comfortable controls, Good value for the money, user friendly, durable, good quality pictures,
Cons: Cannot adjust the speed fast enough for low light pictures.
Does not come with a case. Small Memory card.
Biggest complaint seems to be that Canon should have included a 1 or 2gb SD card. It comes with a 32MB memory card. With cards being so inexpensive it would not have made an appreciable difference in the cost and would have probably made this a true “5″ rating.

“In the past I’ve owned a Canon SD400, 500, 600, 630, and Rebel xti. The SD1000 is a good value for what you get. Only thing I don’t like about the Canon SD series is that the optical/digital zoom isn’t that great, but for the price, it’s a good deal. Especially now that SD1000 is 7.1 mp. The SD1000 has more of a box look compared to other cameras in the SD series but still nice, with a large LCD screen. Overall good camera.”

Fujifilm FinePix A800 8.3 Megapixel Digital Camera

Pros: Quality compares to the higher rated Fujifilm F31fd. Easy to use. Comes with 1gb memory and carrying case. Good for a beginer.
Cons: No viewfinder. Low light shooting could be better, Slow lag time. Not the best for fast shooting.

“Impressive photos from a cheap camera (130USD). Basically equivalent quality to the highly-rated Fujifilm F31fd, only it has 8 megapixels (not 6). Noise reduction eats away at edges and details, but overall a great performance unsurpassed by other compacts. Startup, lens zoom, autofocus, and image review zoom especially are s-l-o-w. Not the best for fast shooting.”

Pros: Excellent Macro feature. Has a viewfinder.* Sturdy. Long battery life.
Cons: You have to buy a memory card. Low light/indoor pictures could be better.
*Although it has a viewfinder which is a plus, unfortunately it is not that accurate for close ups.

Prices on digital cameras have come down considerably while the quality has improved. It wasn’t too long ago that a 2-3 megapixel camera was the norm.
Now 7-8 is about average.
Selecting the right camera for you is dependent upon what you want out of the camera. If you just want to shoot family, or, vacation snap shots you probably cannot go wrong with any of these. However, if you into much more sophisticated photography, then you should probably consider SLR type cameras.
